It's not the actual CVT that's the problem, It's the torque converters that are causing that shudder at lower rpms (usually when accelerating on light throttle). We've done countless amounts of those torque converters, so much so that Nissan now requires everyone to data log the incident for proof. Towing with the Pathfinders is fine, i just know its less than the previous Pathfinders (I think around 5,000 lbs). I will personally never buy a CVT.
